Announcements for Parents – #Robinmicklems:

All Mickle parents are invited/encouraged to attend the Tuesday, November 15th PTSO meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Mickle Media Center for a follow up to our spring 2011 anti-bullying seminar presented by Mr. Vic Pearson and Mickle staff.

Mr. Pearson will present a video entitled “Bullying” that is specifically for staff members and parents. Viewers will hear testimonials from parents, school staff, and students about their experiences with bullying and what they did or tried to do to address it. This video also includes an interview with a bullying prevention expert on the definition of bullying, warning signs of bullying, bullying statistics, and additional information on bullying.  This year Mr. Pearson’s Anti-Bullying Team has created two pamphlets that he will pass out at the November 15th Meeting. These pamplets are also on the Mickle Web Site. Parents will find important information that they can use while working with their children.

Mickle’s Planner Word of the Week: Courtesy- Following through on your commitments to others is an important courtesy. Use your planner to help!

Did you know that 60% of 6th-9th graders who bullied had criminal records by age 24?  35-40% had been convicted of 3 or more crimes.  Don’t let bullying ruin your life.

Today you will receive a teal ribbon in honor of National Anti-bullying Week.  Wear it with pride as we work to make Mickle a place free of bullying.

Teal colored wristbands that say, “Take a Stand, Lend a Hand” will be on sale at lunch by the cafeteria for $1.00.

Don’t forget the Anti-bullying Week Poster Contest.    Our theme is  “Take a Stand, Lend a Hand.”  Turn your posters in by Wednesday to be eligible for a prize.  Posters will be judged on being colorful, creative, and having an anti-bullying message.  Poster paper can be picked up from Mr. Pearson, Mrs. Ainslie, Mrs. Kiburz, Mrs. Schmidt, and Mrs. Gabelhouse.

The school wide Geography Bee will be here before you know it. In all social studies classes there will be a preliminary test to identify the finalist for the bee. The winner of the Mickle Geography Bee will receive a $40 gift card of their choice. Second place will receive a $30 gift card of their choice and third will receive a $20 gift card of their choice. So start cracking those geography books for your chance to win!!

Mickle’s Planner Word of the Week: Dependability- Remember, use your planner to keep track of your commitments outside of school, too!

Did you know that 3 out of 4 kids will be bullied during their 12 years of school?  Don’t be a bystander—take a stand against bullying at Mickle.  Next week is National Anti-bullying Week.  Anyone wishing to enter a poster contest promoting Anti-bullying should see Mrs. Ainslie, Mr. Pearson, Mrs. Kiburz, Mrs. Schmidt, or Mrs. Gabelhouse. Posters will be displayed throughout our building in the coming weeks.  Posters will be judged on color, creativity, and the anti-bullying message.  Prizes will be awarded.  Listen to the bulletin for other activities that will be happening during anti-bullying week.

Congratulations to 8th grade student Megan Sattler, for making it to nationals for the 2011 NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick competition.  Megan will be competing at halftime of the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos game this weekend at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.  If you see her, make sure to wish her luck!

Tomorrow, November 10th there will be a 7th grade social after school from 3pm -4pm. The cost to enter the event will be a $1 or a can of food. There will be multiple activities for students to participate in during the social time. We ask that all students are picked up or have left campus no later than 4:15pm. If you have any concerns please contact a teacher or administrator at Mickle. Thanks Mickle Student Council.

IB Academy Day at Lincoln High.  If you or your student are interested in information regarding the International Baccalaureate (IB) program please have your student stop in the main office to pick up a letter with information on the Academy Day at Lincoln High.

ADDITIONAL SATURDAY VACCINE CLINICS OFFERED FOR AREA STUDENTS

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department will hold additional Saturday clinics for students who need Varicella and Tdap vaccines, required by Nebraska schools this year. Only students who live in Lancaster County and who need Varicella or Tdap will be served. Tdap is needed for 7th graders only.

The clinics will be held on Saturday, November 12th, Saturday, November 19th, and Saturday, December 3rd from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department. The health department is located at 32nd and “O” streets. Parking is available just north of the building and clients may use the north entrance of the building, directly under the “Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department” sign.

Have warms clothes to Donate??  Bring winter clothes to school with you on Friday, Nov 4th to be donated for Bubba’s closet winter school clothing drive for elementary- age kids.  On Saturday, November 12 from 8:30 – 9:30am, donated clothes will be made available at Riley Elementary where elementary students and their families can pick out items to adopt and use.  Thanks for any help you can provide on this short notice!

Have warms clothes to Donate??  Bring winter clothes to school with you on Friday, Nov 4th to be donated for Bubba’s closet winter school clothing drive for elementary- age kids.  On Saturday, November 12 from 8:30 – 9:30am, donated clothes will be made available at Riley Elementary where elementary students and their families can pick out items to adopt and use.  Thanks for any help you can provide on this short notice!

The school wide Geography Bee will be here before you know it. In all social studies classes there will be a preliminary test to identify the finalist for the bee. The winner of the Mickle Geography Bee will receive a $40 gift card of their choice. Second place will receive a $30 gift card of their choice and third will receive a $20 gift card of their choice. So start cracking those geography books for your chance to win!!

Have warms clothes to Donate??  Bring winter clothes to school with you on Friday, Nov 4th to be donated for Bubba’s closet winter school clothing drive for elementary- age kids.  On  Saturday, November 23 from 8:30 – 9:30am, donated clothes will be made available at Riley Elementary where elementary students and their families can pick out items to adopt and use.  Thanks for any help you can provide on this short notice!
