Mickle’s Planner Word of the Week: Optimism- Faced a setback? Failed to reach a goal? Staying optimistic will give you the energy to try again.

The Mickle All-School Holiday Choir will begin rehearsals for their “Spectacular Santa Singalong” on Thursday, December 1st and Friday, December 2nd.  All 6th, 7th and 8th graders are invited to come to the Choir Room 142 at 7:15 am or 3:00pm.  We will have a snack and juice for you – so come join the holiday singing fun!

Mickle Newspaper staff members–please be working on conducting your interviews and writing your stories! We need more done before Wednesday so that we can polish them up and try to finish!

Congratulations to the Mickle students that participated in the University of Nebraska High School Math Day contests yesterday.  Mickle is the only middle sschool in the entire state that takes students to the competition.  Seventh graders (Olivia D., Austin G., Max M., and Dawson M.) participated in only the written test.  Eighth graders (Katilynne J., Rachel J., and Logan R.) also participated in the Quiz Bowl team competition. They survived through the 8th round before elimination in the 10 round competition by defeating schools junior and senior students from schools like Shickley, Hyannis, and Harvard (Ne.) They represented our school well.

Mickle’s Planner Word of the Week: Courtesy- Following through on your commitments to others is an important courtesy. Use your planner to help!

For those of you who are fans of the card game, Magic, the CLC has a card club in which members get the chance to play Magic against other avid players.  Card Club meets afterschool today in Mr. Rowe’s room which is room 120.  The club meets from 3:15 to 4:00.  If you have a Magic card deck, please bring it.  If not, that’s okay, too.  If you have questions, you can talk to Mrs. Petsch in room 139 or James with the CLC.

The media center is getting CRAFTY!  Thursday after school we will hold a session to create domo-style bookmarks! Domos were little creatures created as a mascot for a Japanese television station.  Come and make your very own awesome bookmark!”

All Mickle parents are invited/encouraged to attend the Tuesday, November 15th PTSO meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Mickle Media Center for a follow up to our spring 2011 anti-bullying seminar presented by Mr. Vic Pearson and Mickle staff.

Mr. Pearson will present a video entitled “Bullying” that is specifically for staff members and parents. Viewers will hear testimonials from parents, school staff, and students about their experiences with bullying and what they did or tried to do to address it. This video also includes an interview with a bullying prevention expert on the definition of bullying, warning signs of bullying, bullying statistics, and additional information on bullying.  This year Mr. Pearson’s Anti-Bullying Team has created two pamphlets that he will pass out at the November 15th Meeting. These pamplets are also on the Mickle Web Site. Parents will find important information that they can use while working with their children.

Mickle’s Anti-Bullying Team consists of the following members: Vic Pearson, Gene Thompson, Doreen Ainslie, Nancy Kiburz, Vicky Harris, Diane Gabelhouse, Jarred Rowe, Andrew Westphalen, Tom Magnuson, Travis Bartels, Brenda Schmidt, and Jane Cotton-Green.

Did you know that 60% of 6th-9th graders who bullied had criminal records by age 24?  35-40% had been convicted of 3 or more crimes.  Don’t let bullying ruin your life.

Today you will receive a teal ribbon in honor of National Anti-bullying Week.  Wear it with pride as we work to make Mickle a place free of bullying.

Teal colored wristbands that say, “Take a Stand, Lend a Hand” will be on sale at lunch by the cafeteria for $1.00.

Don’t forget the Anti-bullying Week Poster Contest.    Our theme is  “Take a Stand, Lend a Hand.”  Turn your posters in by Wednesday to be eligible for a prize.  Posters will be judged on being colorful, creative, and having an anti-bullying message.  Poster paper can be picked up from Mr. Pearson, Mrs. Ainslie, Mrs. Kiburz, Mrs. Schmidt, and Mrs. Gabelhouse.

Mickle’s Planner Word of the Week: Dependability- Remember, use your planner to keep track of your commitments outside of school, too!

Did you know that 3 out of 4 kids will be bullied during their 12 years of school?  Don’t be a bystander—take a stand against bullying at Mickle.  Next week is National Anti-bullying Week.  Anyone wishing to enter a poster contest promoting Anti-bullying should see Mrs. Ainslie, Mr. Pearson, Mrs. Kiburz, Mrs. Schmidt, or Mrs. Gabelhouse. Posters will be displayed throughout our building in the coming weeks.  Posters will be judged on color, creativity, and the anti-bullying message.  Prizes will be awarded.  Listen to the bulletin for other activities that will be happening during anti-bullying week.

Congratulations to 8th grade student Megan Sattler, for making it to nationals for the 2011 NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick competition.  Megan will be competing at halftime of the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos game this weekend at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.  If you see her, make sure to wish her luck!
