*THIS WEEK IS NATIONAL RED RIBBON WEEK
Kids hear about drugs everywhere, it seems: on TV, the radio, and the news; in music and movies; and sometimes even on the street or on the playground. Research shows that when parents tell their kids they don’t want them to do drugs, the kids are less likely to do drugs.
The teen years are the most likely time for someone to start taking drugs. And starting drug use as a teen can lead to drug problems when they grow up.
There are many things you can do to help your children stay away from drugs and make good choices:
•        Talk with your children about drugs. Explain how taking drugs can hurt their health, their friends and family, and their future. Tell them you don’t want them to do drugs.
•        Be a part of their lives. Spend time together. Even when times are hard, kids can make it when they know that the adults in their life care about them.
•        Know where your children are and what they’re doing. Keeping track of your children helps you protect them. It gives them fewer chances to get into drugs.
•        Set clear rules and enforce them fairly. Kids need rules they can count on. That is how they learn for themselves what is safe and what can get them in trouble.
•        Be a good example for your children. You might not think so, but kids look up to their parents. Show them how you get along with people and deal with stress, so they can learn how to do it.
•        Teach your children how to refuse drugs. Kids often do drugs just to fit in with the other kids. Help them practice how to say no if someone offers them drugs.
•        Make your home safe. Do not have people in the house who abuse drugs and alcohol. Keep track of medicines and cleaning products.

Dress up days for Red Ribbon Week:
Mon: Follow your dreams, be drug free. Wear pj’s or sweats. No slippers.
Tues: Dress for Success. Dress up as a chosen career or wear professional dress clothes.
Wed: My future is bright so I don’t do drugs. Wear bright/neon/pink clothes.

Thurs: Drugs turn you inside out. Wear clothes inside out.
Fri: Drugs have no Character. Dress up like your favorite book, tv or movie character.

The Red Ribbon Campaign is now the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week each year. This year Mickle will celebrate Red Ribbon Week Monday, Oct 22 – Friday, Oct 26. RRW is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. This year’s national theme: Life is Your Journey: Travel Drug Free.
During RRW students are invited to dress up each day based on a predetermined theme. On Monday, Oct 22nd the theme is “Follow your Dreams”: Wear pajamas or sweats, no slippers. Students will also help their 5th period class compete in a door decorating contest to spread the drug-free message throughout the school. Finally, students will be asked to sign a drug-free pledge card.

*Dress up days for Red Ribbon Week:
Mon: Follow your dreams, be drug free. Wear pj’s or sweats. No slippers.
Tues: Dress for Success. Dress up as a chosen career or wear professional dress clothes.
Wed: My future is bright so I don’t do drugs. Wear bright/neon/pink clothes.
Thurs: Drugs turn you inside out. Wear clothes inside out.
Fri: Drugs have no Character. Dress up like your favorite book, tv or movie character.

Mickle will once again partner with Raising Cane’s for their coat drive. If you have coats or jackets at home that are not needed for your family you can bring them to school to be donated to the People’s City Mission. We will be collecting coats starting on Oct. 17th through the 30th. You need to bring them to your 1st period “X” day class. The class that collects the highest percentage per student will win a tailgate party put on by Raising Cane’s. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Bell or Mrs. Pfoltner.
