PTSO Upcoming Meetings – Officers Needed for Next School Year

The PTSO Board has positions open for the upcoming school year.  We are in need of a President, Treasurer, Secretary and Fundraiser chair.  If you are interested in making a difference and being involved in your school, this would be the perfect opportunity for you.  PTSO provides funding thru our fundraisers for so many things for Mickle students and teachers, including planners, field trips, registration fees for Math Competitions, tshirts for incoming 6th graders, teacher meals for parent teacher conferences…the list goes on and on and our continued support is needed to make all of this happen.   Elections will be held at the April 17th PTSO meeting.  You are welcome to attended our upcoming meetings, which are held the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the media center.  Our meeting schedule for the remainder of the year is as follows, April 17th, and May 15th.   If you are interested in being on the Board, please email Angie Miller at ajmmiller18@hotmail.com, or be sure to be at the meeting on April 17th for elections.
Mickle Middle School’s PTSO will be sponsoring the Spring Fundraiser to raise funds for a new sound system in the auditorium.  We will be selling World’s Finest candy bars as our Spring Fundraiser. The kickoff for the fundraiser will be Tuesday, April 10th with distribution of the candy bars starting after school Wednesday, April 11th.        If a family wishes to participate in the Fundraiser, the candy bars will be pre-sold to families for $50 per box, each box will contain 50 candy bars to be sold for $1 each. Because pre-sale of boxes is forward paid to Mickle, collected money for sold candy bars stays with the family.  If students sell out of candy bars and wish to sell more, extra boxes will be available at school during the sales window. More information will be provided for students and families on April 10th.

2012 Future Rocket Night will be held on Monday, April 16th.  This evening for you and your student will highlight information on the programs and opportunities in place to assist in a successful transition to Lincoln Northeast High School. You will be receiving more information from Northeast about this.

This week, 6th and 8th grade students at Mickle will be participating in the Nebraska State Accountability (NeSA) tests.  The NeSA tests are statewide assessments. The results are used for instructional planning for students and for state and federal accountability reporting. For the 6-8 th grade NeSA-reading and 8 th grade science, testing is completed online and is a 2-day test. The 6-8 th grade NeSA-math testing is a paper/pencil, 2-day test. These tests are untimed but typically will take students 60 minutes to complete.  There are several things parents can do to positively contribute to their child’s success. Encourage your child to put forth their best effort with positive statements expressing confidence in their abilities and their efforts. A good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast will go a long way to help your child best show what they know and are able to do on the test. Finally, being in school during testing is very important. Please reschedule any appointments that may take your child out of school on the testing dates.  As always, we appreciate your support! Please call us at 402-436-1216, or email at (mickle@lps.org) if you have any questions.

Next week, 6th and 8th grade students at Mickle will be participating in the Nebraska State Accountability (NeSA) tests.
