*The Red Ribbon Campaign is now the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week each year. This year Mickle will celebrate Red Ribbon Week Monday, Oct 21- Friday, Oct 25. RRW is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. This year’s national theme: Send a message, Stay Drug Free. During RRW students are invited to dress up each day based on a predetermined theme (see below). Other activities will take place throughout the week. We encourage families to discuss healthy choices and the dangers of drugs.

*Counselor Corner: Youth Vaping: Protecting our Youth

E-cigarettes are the most commonly used tobacco product among U.S. youth (CDC).    According to a national survey by the CDC, 3.6 million teens reported current e-cigarette use in 2018. This is more than double the number of middle and high school students who reported using e-cigarettes in 2017 (1.5 million in 2017). In an effort to highlight this growing health concern, the Surgeon General released an advisory on e-cigarette use among youth in December 2018. According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services media release, the advisory “stresses the importance of protecting children from a lifetime of nicotine addiction and associated health risks by immediately addressing the epidemic of youth e-cigarette use”. If you’re confused about vaping or just want to learn more please consider attending the event below:

Blast Off to National Yearbook Week!

The yearbook committee has some amazing events scheduled throughout the week. Stop by the media center to see yearbooks from school years gone by.

On Monday, pick up a design-your-own missile template. Color it in and give it to Ms. Binkley in 211 for us to put in the yearbook!

Tuesday, stop by the media center to see what staff members looked like in middle school. If you can identify them correctly, you will be entered into a drawing to win a yearbook!

It’s Throwback on Thursday! Dress in your favorite decade clothes. Stop by the photo booth outside the cafeteria to have your picture taken during lunch! Picture retakes are also happening during the day!

Friday, the missile templates are due. Also, swing back by the photobooth for National SMILE Day!

Blast off to a GREAT WEEK!

Picture Retakes are 10/3/19. If you would like your student to get their picture retaken, or if they missed picture day in August, please have them come to the office to sign up for retakes before 10/3/19. If retake’s are desired – have your student bring their picture packet with them when they sign up and give it to Mrs. Mlady in the main office.
