Tuesday, October 26, is a PLC day.  Students will be released at 1:40p and should be off campus no later than 1:55p. Just a reminder…There are no clubs or intramurals offered on PLC days.

At Mickle we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week next week (Oct 25-29)

DID YOU KNOW? Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations. Red Ribbon Week®, the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, is your opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started. This year’s theme is Drug free looks like ME! Visit www.redribbon.org to learn more about Red Ribbon Week® and get tips for talking to your kids about drugs. The life you save may be that of your own child or a dear friend.

This year we will celebrate with morning announcements each day, a spirit/dress-up week, a giant poster in the main hall that students will tape red ribbons to on Monday on their way to lunch, and finally an amazing Vaping video made by UNL Nursing Students that work with our Mickle Health Office.

RRW Dress up theme days:

Tuesday 26th: Dress like your future self/dream career (Drug free looks like ME!)

Wednesday 27th: Wear Red and/or Pink (Wear red for RRW!)

*Parent Survey:

All parents are invited to participate in a short survey about the LPS Connected Learning (technology) plan. This is an important opportunity for parents to share observations of technology use in your life, in your child’s education, and by LPS in general. Your feedback will impact decisions made by the school district in regards to future initiatives. We thank you for your time!

*MAP Growth Reading and Math and MAP Fluency results for Mickle students who tested this past September are now available in Synergy for parents to view. Scores can be accessed by families in ParentVUE. Visit the Mickle website, or the link below, for directions on how to see your student’s results.

*Quarter 1 summary report cards will be available to all families in ParentVue or StudentVue after Friday of this week. Another message will be coming.  Instructions for how to access your student’s report card can be found at the link below. From the ‘Report Card’ tab, a clickable link will be present if families wish to print a paper based summary report.

ParentVUE is a component of the LPS Student Information portal that allows parents/guardians and students secure access to grades, assignments, and attendance information. Assignments and student performance can be viewed as soon as entries are made by teachers into their electronic grade books. If you would like more detailed information on how ParentVUE works, please take a video tour by following this link:

http://home.lps.org/training/parentvue-lps-parent-portal-for-student-information/

In order to get the most out of ParentVUE, we strongly encourage parents to view the video to learn how to use other important features to set up notifications if you want to receive alerts about your student’s grades or weekly summaries to guide work time on weekends. If you have not yet activated your ParentVUE account and would like to do so, please contact our Registrar, Barb Bogus at 402-436-1216.

One last reminder.  1st quarter summary reports cards are 9-week ‘snapshot grades’ of learning progress for the 18-week semester courses.  Semester classes are an ongoing grade and are not figured as an average grade between 1st and 2nd quarter.

For 6th graders – Art, Healthy Living, STS, and World Language are quarter classes and summary report cards will display a final grade.

For 7th graders – FCS, STS, Vocal Music and World Language are quarter classes and summary report cards will display a final grade.

After looking at it  again with your student, if you have questions for individual teachers, don’t hesitate to contact the school and leave a message for the teachers (402.436.1216).  You can also email teachers individually.  Clickable access to their accounts is available from StudentVue/ParentVue screens, in the “Gradebook” or “School Information” tab choices.

*Effort to decrease tardiness in Q2. Families, today and/or tomorrow, your student will begin to hear more consistent messages from our staff on the importance of being to class on time.

Our goal in Q2 is work on reducing the amount of tardies to each class. We are spreading the message about the importance of getting to class on time and school at 8am.

Family help is also needed to be consistent. We are asking for extra help in family conversations about the importance of being on time to school and to class. Habits are built now as we realize that colder weather is coming. As we begin to analyze our attendance records before school and during the day, staff will begin to reach out to families where assistance is needed. Begin to consistently review ParentVue and the “attendance’ tab. Talk with your students about why they are late and help problem-solve as needed. If you have more questions, feel free to reach out to any teacher or the Mickle counseling center!
