*Today’s Counselor Corner:

The teenage years are a formative period. Sleep is essential during this time, working behind the scenes to allow teens to be at their best. Unfortunately, research indicates that many teens get far less sleep than they need. Teens need between 8 and 10 hours of sleep per night. Getting this recommended amount of sleep can help teens maintain their physical health, emotional well-being, and school performance.

Teens can review and improve their sleep hygiene, which includes their sleep environment and habits. Some healthy sleep tips that can help in this process include:

-Budgeting eight hours of sleep into your daily schedule and keeping that same schedule on both weekdays and weekends.

-Creating a consistent pre-bed routine to help with relaxation and falling asleep fast.

-Avoiding caffeine and energy drinks, especially in the afternoon and evening.

-Putting away electronic devices for at least a half-hour before bed and keeping them on silent mode to avoid checking them during the night.

-Setting up your bed with a supportive mattress and pillows.

-Keeping your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet.

Picture retakes will be Thursday, October 1 from 1-3pm.  A sign up sheet is available in the Mickle Office.

This is for students who did not have their picture taken on August 21, were not at school on August 21, or there was a technical issue & have requested a retake of the student’s picture.  If the retake is due to a problem with the original picture, LifeTouch requires the student to return their original picture package proof.  Students will turn those in at the time of the retake.

Remote learning students are also invited on October 1, between 1-3pm to get their picture taken for the yearbook.  Families will need to provide transportation to/from Mickle and face coverings will be required during the whole process leading up to/after picture time.  There may be a small wait for the picture to be taken as retake students will follow the same process.  Parents are asked to wait in their car until their remote learner is finished.  Online pre-orders for pictures from Oct 1 are going to be available.  Once LifeTouch provides the order code, we will share it to remote learner families.

*Thank you so much to everyone who purchased cookie dough or frosting. We raised over $800 that will be used to support the staff and students of Mickle Middle School. We will be sponsoring dine-outs and a variety of other fundraisers as we go through the 2020/2021 school year.

We know that some of them may not be things your family likes or are available to support, but the variety of opportunities gives more people the chance to help us make Mickle better.

We would love to have the involvement of more parents, staff, teachers and students in PTSO. For more information on how you can get involved please visit the PTSO page on the Mickle Website https://mickle.lps.org/ptso/. We are also on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

*The health office will be beginning annual 7th grade health screening (height/weight, vision and hearing) to comply with State of Nebraska regulations. Any questions please contact our health office at 402-436-1216 (option 4)
